Meet Dr. Ruth Wetherford
I grew up in a small town in central Louisiana during the 1950's and 60's and graduated cum laude from Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge in 1969 (B.A., Psychology). I got my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Houston in 1977, was a Postdoctoral Fellow in Family Therapy, 1977-78, and headed to California as soon as possible in the Fall of 1978. I've loved living in San Francisco for the past 31 years! I became licensed in California in 1980 and have been a busy psychologist ever since.

First, I was appointed to the core faculty of California School of Professional Psychology (now a part of Alliant University) in Berkeley/Alameda, where I taught many classes, chaired student dissertations and was the Chair of the Human Subjects Committee until 1985. At that time I became an Adjunct Faculty member and taught classes until I retired from teaching in 1999.

My first work as a therapist here was with children and their families in the Tenderloin from 1979-84. I was on a community mental health team (county funded) that worked to reduce the effects of poverty, neglect and abuse on young children. It was hard but fulfilling.

I began my private office in 1982 and moved into the Mills Building in 1992, where I love my office and plan to stay put.   I see people in all sorts of difficult, though human, situations.  Together, we reduce psychic pain and increase the sense of enjoyment of life.
